Working with external environmental reporting experts, Play It Green and Eaasi Carbon, Ikonic Technology has embarked on a journey of sustainability, resulting in carbon neutrality, a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP), and a net-zero emissions target for 2038, well ahead of the government’s aim of 2050.
Ikonic’s sustainability advocates, Chris Perry, Gary Levene, Matt Trinder, and Simon Thomas, have all collaborated to meet carbon reporting insight requirements of scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions across our business operations with large thanks to the data provided by Accounts.
With our base reporting year set at 2021, we have seen a decrease of 6.2% in CO2 emissions per employee and a 5.8% decrease per £1m turnover up to the year-end of 2023.
With initiatives outlined to help lower our emissions further and revolutionary industry technology such as Electric Vehicles, we are confident of continuing to reduce our company’s emission output.
How have Ikonic become carbon-neutral?
Knowing our emissions output has allowed us to offset our emissions by investing in a carbon-positive scheme. In our case, we are working with the Eden Reforestation Project in Madagascar.
This is a reforestation scheme that works with local villagers to plant Mangrove trees which are effective at removing carbon from the atmosphere at a rate of 73.8-100kg of CO2 equivalent in a course of 6 years, per tree!
So not only are we now a carbon-neutral company having planted over 20,000 trees, but we are also helping to give impoverished communities a regular income. A truly special positive outcome, well done all.
A decrease of 6.2% in CO2 emissions per employee since 2021
Complete transparency
As a part of our open and transparent policy towards sustainability, the full reports regarding Ikonic’s journey to net zero, specifically the Carbon Reduction Plans are openly available to the public.
Emissions Reporting for 2022
Our original target for 2022 was 350 tCO2e, however, we have managed to accelerate the reduction of our carbon emissions down to 342.81 tCO2e through our existing completed Carbon Reduction Plan Initiatives. This puts us 2.05% ahead of our Net Zero run rate target in 2022.
As detailed in our 2022 CRP plan: Ikonic Technology CRP 2022
Emissions Reporting for 2023
Our emissions target for 2023 was forecasted to increase due to our estimated rise in employee numbers from 75 in 2021 (baseline year) to 100 employees in 2023.
The emissions from employees commuting to work alone was 102.044 tCO2e in 2023 compared to 16.729 tCO2 in our baseline year 2021 (COVID operational year). Therefore, we have factored within our assumptions an initial increase, before steadily reducing the impact of such emissions as the UK transitions towards a low carbon vehicle future.
Therefore, our target for 2023 emissions was higher at 420 tCO2e, however we have managed to accelerate the reduction of our carbon emissions down to 415.156 tCO2e through our existing completed Carbon Reduction Plan Initiatives. This puts us 1.15% ahead of our Net Zero run rate target in 2023.
As detailed in last year’s reported annual CRP: Ikonic Technology CRP 2023
Rebalancing the emissions, we have already created
Thanks to our partnership with Play It Green, we have rebalanced our total yearly carbon emissions as detailed within our carbon reduction plan for reporting years 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Choosing to offset the emissions we have generated is a choice we have made to help support the growth and development of our carbon initiatives and enable a positive impact on the planet. This is only a part of our net-zero journey and not the long-term solution.
Today we are proud to say we are the only carbon-neutral IT distributor. With our ambitious aims and development towards sustainability in all scopes, we look forward to a continued journey towards a net-zero company.
